GWR Class 9400

Description (1957) 0-6-0PT's designed by Hawksworth. The first ten, Nos. 9400-9409, were built in 1947 and were unsuperheated. A large order for 200 similar engines, but with superheaters, was then placed with outside firms, the first being placed in service in 1949. Delivery was slow, however, and the final batch, Nos. 3400-3409, did not arrive until 1956, these being the last locomotives of pre-nationalization design to be constructed.
