Description (1957) |
Class N1. Great Northern Ivatt 0-6-2T's, with 5'8" wheels, built between 1906 and 1912. A class of 56 engines, of which No. 9438 was withdrawn in 1947. Most of the class were originally fitted with condensing apparatus for working through the Metropolitan tunnels, but many have since worked in the Leeds and Bradford districts and with some of these locomotives the apparatus has been removed. A few engines in this class received superheaters. The majority of the class were still running in 1954, but since that date withdrawals have been heavy. No. 69461 is employed as a stationary boiler at Shoeburyness. |
