26/06/1948 Eastleigh Works New 'Merchant Navy' Class Nos. 35021-23 were seen in various stages of construction here on 26/6, while the Metro-Vickers electric 20003 was having the motors fitted. An interesting engine under repair was No. 3298, one of the Beattie 2-4-0T. SLS/194808
11/09/1950 The Beattie 2-4-0 Well Tanks In addition to working the Wenford Bridge mineral traffic, these sometimes deputise on passenger jobs for the 'O.2' class tanks. On 11/9/50, No. 30586 (old No. 314) worked the Padstow and Bodmin local service, including the 8.10 a.m. special 'school train' from Padstow to Bodmin (General), possibly the first appearance of the class on the G.W. line. On 13/11/50 the same train was hauled by two of the class (Nos. 30586, and 30587 ex 298) due to a wet rail. Surely a unique sight to see two 75-year-olds on passenger haulage! SLS/195101
30/06/1962 Southern Miscellany During April and May, Collett 1366 Class 0-6-0PT loco. 1368 of Weymouth (71G) was working from Wadebridge (72F) on the Wenford Bridge line, as a possible successor to the veteran Beattie ex-L.S.W.R. 0298 Class 2-4-OWT locos. 30585-7. We understand that if these trials are satisfactory, 1368 will be joined by 1367 an 1369. SLS/196207

We are informed that all three Beattie ex-L.S.W.R. 0298 Class 2-4-0WT locos are scheduled for preservation upon withdrawal, as follows : 30585 to the Bluebell Railway, 30586 to a private purchaser (details not yet available) and 30587 to the B.T.C. Collection. SLS/196210
31/10/1962 Locomotive Sheds The closure of Kingham shed is postponed till the Chipping Norton service is withdrawn. (An Oxford pick-up goods works the Kingham-Bourton-on-the-Water section thrice weekly). Penzance and Newton Abbot lost their surviving steam allocation w.e.f. 10th September. As Weymouth shed turntable is under repair a number of BR 2-6-4Ts are on loan there. Pannier tanks 1367-1369 have assumed all duties at Wadebridge and the last Beattie tank there (30587) left on 26th September and reached Salisbury 29th September, and Eastleigh the next week. On 7th October, 28 small engines from Bristol St. Philips Marsh were transferred to the former MR Bristol shed leaving 45 engines, mainly 4-6-0s and 2-8-0s. SLS/196211
08/08/1963 Fratton MPD Fratton shed looked like a miniature Clapham early in August when in the roundhouse were : Lord Nelson 30850, Schools 30925/6, Beattie Tanks 30586/7, Z class 30952 and M7 30245. SLS/196310
24/10/1964 Stratford Works (Old Erecting shop) Old Erecting shop:, Locos. for preservation : LYR 1008, 30245/587/777/850/925, 33001, 49395, 71000, 63460, 63601 for preservation. (Note that GWR ones are still at Swindon.) SLS/196411
