31/05/1950 Doncaster Works The 'Plant' has usually about sixty locomotives in for repair, etc., at a time, the running sheds being ready to forward engines approved for shopping as soon as they can be accepted, so that a continuous routine is maintained: arrival in yard; examination and stripping; entering erecting shop; distribution of parts to Sections concerned; later the paint shop takes all engines for blue, green, or lined liveries. All 'Pacifics' from former L.N.E.R. depots go to Plant for heavy repair, so do most of the 'Green Arrow' and former G.N.R. types, as well as a number of 'B.1' and 'K.3' and various other classes. Recently noted in one stage or another were 15 'Pacifics' of four classes, 9 'V.2,' 10 3-cyl. 'Moguls,' the 2-cyl. 'K.5' rebuild, 6 'B.1,' and among older goods and tank types an Ivatt 4-4-2T. Some condemned G.N.R. 4-4-0's were in the yard, and new construction comprised standard L.M.R. Class 4MT 2-6-0. Engines recently named are 60115 Meg Merrities, 60121 Silurian and 60139 Sea Eagle.
The Royal engine, 'B.2' 61671 Royal Sovereign is back at Cambridge (31A) in apple-green livery, with red background to nameplates. The last G.N.R. 'Atlantic' in active service is No. 62822 (35B), originally 294, built 1905. Six of the G.C. 'Atlantics' still remain, including the two originals of 1903, originally 192/4, now 2900/1; the two corresponding 4-6-0, built at the same time, originally 195/6, later 1479/80. were, however, withdrawn on 31/12/47. The G.C. had 52 'Atlantics' and 100 4-6-0 of various types (some built 1924) but only one 4-6-0 remains, Immingham (at Ardsley, 37A) in L.N.E. green (underneath).
Of the current order for 'L.1' tanks, being supplied by Messrs. Stephenson & Hawthorns, 67766-90 have been delivered (makers' Nos. 7500 up): 67767-76/78-86 are at Neasden (34E), 67787/8/9 at Norwich (32A), and 67790 at King's Cross (34A). Several of the earlier batch have been transferred to Ipswich (32B): 67702-6/8-11/16/19.

31/05/1951 \"Heart of Midlothian\" service A1 No. 60151 Midlothian fitted with new type double chimney worked the inaugural 'Heart of Midlothian' Festival train from King's Cross, with a complete set of new standard coaches. No. 60116, lately named Hal o'the Wynd has also acquired a similar chimney. B17 No. 61653, on the other hand, is 'recently off works with what appears to be a K3 chimney and looks rather odd: it is appearing regularly at the moment on the 'Royal' working, No. 61671 being a casualty yet again. 04/10/1958 E.R. locomotive news C12 67352 is now acting as Station pilot, Grantham and is ex-works, fully lined out; J52 68846 is ex-works, fully lined out at Hornsey; L.T.S.R. 4-4-2T 41969 is ex-works in unlined black at Plaistow; 61632, Belvoir Castle has been renamed Royal Sovereign and was ex-Stratford mid-October whilst 61671 was still in scrap yard with nameplates Royal Sovereign.
