Initially used on Swindon-Weymouth route and South Wales expresses, displacing the 2201 class. They were also used on North to West expresses via Hereford. Those fitted with a Westinghouse brake (and others) were based at Westbourne Park in west London and at Reading for commuter suburban services.
The 3232's were themselves displaced from the heavier expresses in South Wales and on the West - North route by Badminton 4-4-0's and spent more time working from London and Bristol, plus a handful in South Wales.
From about 1922, about half the class were used in the Thames Valley on local and milk traffic. Others were at Wolverhampton for use on the Crewe route (via Shrewsbury). A couple were at Westbury at this time.
Latterly, the class were to be found in Mid-Wales at Machynlleth but a few stayed on in the Thames Valley on lighter duties. |
