Grouping Company London and North Eastern Railway
Description (1957) Class Y1 & Class Y3 L.N.E.R. 4-wheeled Sentinel shunting locomotives, with 2'6" wheels, vertical water tube-boiler, 275 lbs. working pressure, 6½ X 9 ins. cylinders and Poppet valves. Thirty-three still in service in 1954. Class Y3 have a two-speed gear box, whereas class Y1 have only a single speed, but the classes are identical in appearance. Nos. 68130-3/6, 68165/6/8, 68173/7/8 and 68181 were renumbered into the Departmental list in 1953 as Nos. 37, 39, 4, 6, 51, 5, 7, 38, 40, 41, 42 and 3 respectively. In 1955 No. 68183 became No. 8 . A number of the class were still in service in 1956.
