Historical Data Built using the Joy valve gear and cylinders from a cancelled 4-2-4T. Inside frames, side tanks. Variations in tank water level caused problems with valve gear and the engine was withdrawn in August 1884 with only 11,112 miles covered. However, it was converted to a tender engine, emerging in October 1884.
