Description (1957) |
Churchward 2-6-2T's with 5' 8" wheels, built 1903-6, and per by Collett between 1929 and 1949. There were originally forty engines of the earlier series, at first numbered 3100 and 3111-3149, but later altered to 5100 and 5111-5149. The prototype was constructed in 1903. Of these, ten were reconstructedin 1938-9 with 5' 6" wheels and renumbered 8100-8109. All except 5148 of the remainder have since been scrapped. Some of the later locomotives (4100-4179, 5101-5110 and 5150-5199) have recently been withdrawn. |
