Description (1957) |
Churchward 2-8-0 2-cylinder freight engines, built 1903-19, and perpetuated by Collett with slight modifications (No. 2884 onwards) from 1938-1942. Between 1946 and 1949 several of the class were converted to oil burners and during this period were renumbered temporarily in the 4800's, reverting to their original numbers on reconversion to coal burning. |
