Description (1957) Class D40. G. N. S. R. Pickersgill 6'1" 4-4-0's, originally 21 engines built between 1899 and 1920. The last eight, turned out in 1920, have superheaters and extended smokeboxes, while one or two of the earlier engines have been rebuilt in this manner. One of the class still survives in 1957.
