Designed for working 100 wagon coal trains between Ferme Park (London) and New England (Peterborough), and also, in theory, between Wath and Immingham via the Doncaster avoiding line.
The boosters weren't used that much and were removed just prior to WWII.
A3 style high pressure boilers were fitted during the war and, on withdrawal, were used to convert two A1's to A3's. |
