'Class 3' 2-6-0's, with 5' 3" driving wheels and 2 outside cylinders 17½" x 26". This class consists of 20 engines only, built in 1954. An order for a further five of this class was cancelled. |

Historical Data |
The parent office for design was Swindon, but certain details were undertaken at Brighton, Derby and Doncaster. Like the tank version, the tender type had almost universal availability over main and secondary lines throughout Britain and was designed to replace various tender engines of similar power classification. The boiler, which is the same as that used on the tank version, follows closely the design of the former GWR boiler used on the 5100, 8100 and 5600 classes. |
