Report Date Title Report Source
26/08/1950 Hughes 4-6-0 With the withdrawal of No. 10442, the Hughes 4-6-0 is now represented only by No. 50455; of the seven which came into B.R. stock, this one only was re-numbered. It is of interest to note that frames had been cut for ten more 4-6-4T (L. & Y. 1694-1703, L.M.S. 11120-11129) but as the L.M.S. did not favour large tank engines the frames were altered and used for 4-6-0 Nos. 10455-10464 of which the first left Horwich in June 1924 (works No. 1364). During the early part of their career they often worked into Euston, the first recorded date for 10455 being 24/1/25 at Camden (though of course there may have been earlier visits). Several came up on Cup Final specials that year. SLS/195012
