S.& D. Jubilee survivor |
Class 'J.77' 8404, withdrawn in April, was the last survivor of the locomotives shown at the S. & D. jubilee exhibition in 1875 to remain in active service. Originally N.E.R. No. 1431, of Mr. Fletcher's 'BTP' class, it was built by Messrs. R. & W. Hawthorn in 1875 and ran as a 0-4-4T until 1921, when it was rebuilt as a 0-6-OT at Darlington. |
