On 2/1/47 the 4.13 train from Ashford (all stations to Ramsgate) was double-headed, with 'L' class 4-4-0 No, 1778 Piloting 'H' class 0-4-4T No. 1532. Hauling only four coaches, this strange combination left Ashford five minutes late, but picked up this time easily en route. The train was severely checked outside Canterbury West, owing to the level crossing gates being closed against it, but they were opened and the signal cleared before the train had actually come to a standstill and arrival at Canterbury West was on time. |

There are still a number of boilers so fitted which are inter-changed from time to time, though the second dome has served no purpose since the top-feed arrangement with which it was associated by the L. B.& S.C.R. was discontinued in 1930 under Southern auspices. The ranks of the famous 'I.3' tanks are being rapidly depleted since the advent of the new Class 4 MT Tanks. |
