28/02/1946 L.M.S.R. Highland Section. A new turntable is being installed at the Kyle of Lochalsh to enable standard Class 5's to take over the working of this line the last stronghold of the few remaining H.R. Clans and Clan Goods. During the period whilst no engines can be turned the branch is being worked by 2-6-4T's on loan to Inverness. These include 2213-7 and several in the 2690's. It is an interesting extreme sample of the way in which standard classes may be scattered nowadays to note that Nos. 2217 and 2218, which recently first saw the light of day together at Derby, might at any moment be located respectively at the extreme north western and south eastern limits of the L.M.S. system, Kyle of Lochalsh and Shoeburyness, remote from one another by some 690 route miles.
