101 was an experimental 0-4-0T (the only one of that wheel arrangement built by Swindon). It was built to burn oil fuel using the Holden system. An alternative Lentz boiler was fitted in 1903 and the locomotive was converted to burn coal in 1905 after periods out of use.
The locomotive was originally destined for the Wrington Vale Light Railway (in North Somerset) but instead spent it's few years working at Swindon Works. |
