| Historical Data |
The first 4-6-0 built by the GWR, 36 had double frames (although the inner frames terminated at the firebox in order to accomodate the wide firebox - possibly the first use of a wide firebox on a mainline locomotive in the UK). 36 rarely ventured out from Swindon but was designed to haul freight through the Severn Tunnel. On test, the engine proved very capable for the services it was designed for. |
