Description (1957) Class J4. Stirling and Ivatt 5'2" 0-6-0's with smaller 4'4" diameter boilers. No less than 302 of these engines were built by the G.N.R. between 1873 and 1901 and another 12 were constructed for the Midland & Great Northern Joint Railway in 1900 to the same design. These were absorbed into L.N.E.R. stock in 1937. The Stirling engines originally had domeless boilers and round-top cabs. Nos. 64160/2/7 were formerly M. & G.N.J.R. Nos. 85, 87 and 92. The last J4, No. 64112, was scrapped in 1951.
