Information This loco suffered a catastrophic boiler explosion on 11th November, 1921, just outside Buxton station, due to the safety valves being faulty. The driver and fireman were killed instantly, their bodies being found 450 yards from the engine. The town of Buxton was showered in fragments of metal.
All that was left of the engine was the frames and wheels - the boiler being ripped apart and flung 20 yards from the loco.
