28/02/1962 First Collett King 4-6-0 condemned It is with profound regret that we record the first inroad under normal circumstances of the famous Collett 'King' Class 4-6-0 locos. with 6006 King George I of Wolverhampton Stafford Road (84A) during February. The loco. was built at Swindon Works as G.W.R. 6006 King George I in February, 1928, under Lot 243, and was equipped with a double chimney at Swindon in June, 1956. It will be recalled that 6007 King William III was damaged beyond repair in the Shrivenham disaster and condemned in March, 1936. The present loco. bearing this name and number was actually built as a replacement under Lot 309 later the same month. SLS/196205
